Roberto Baggio and Jannik Sinner, a meeting of phenomena. The Divin Codino posted a photo on Instagram showing him alongside the world’s No. 2 tennis player after meeting him by chance aboard a plane in Dubai: most likely both are returning to Italy for the Christmas holidays. The 24-year-old South Tyrolean from Sesto Pusteria has been doing most of his preparation for the 2026 season in the Emirati city, while Baggio was a guest in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, for the Italian Super Cup won by Napoli.

Martino DavidiJannik Sinner, ranking revolution even before 2026

From 2026, the ATP will return to changing the regulations for calculating the world ranking, marking a return to the past.
The score will in fact be determined based on the best 18 tournaments played by each player.
One less than the current 19.
Main changes also include a change involving ATP 500 category tournaments.
For the top 30 players in the 2025 end-of-season rankings, the 18 valid results will be broken down as follows, as was the case previously.
The 4 Grand Slam tournaments and the 8 mandatory Masters 1000…
… and the best 6 results between the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 (non-mandatory), United Cup, ATP 500, ATP 250, Challenger and ITF tournaments.
An additional significant change is precisely about the ATP 500 mandatory for the top 30 in 2025.
Starting in 2026, the number of required tournaments will drop from five to four.
The Monte Carlo Masters 1000 and the United Cup may also be counted among them.
The requirement to play at least one 500 tournament after the US Open remains unchanged.

“Always good to see you Fenomeno,” with a blue heart: this was the caption with which Baggio accompanied the photo of his post. A photo that unites the one who is surely the strongest Italian tennis player in history and one of the greatest champions of Italian soccer, considered by many the greatest, certainly loved by fans of all teams, even those for which he never played. A meeting that literally sent fans on social media into raptures as they watched together the symbols of what are currently the two most popular sports in Italy.

Roberto Baggio was born in Caldogno, the province of Vicenza, on February 18, 1967. He played with Vicenza (in Serie C1), Fiorentina, Juventus, Milan, Bologna, Inter and Brescia. In Serie A he made 452 appearances and scored 205 goals, winning two Scudetti (Juventus 1994-1995 and Milan 1995-1996), one Coppa Italia (Juventus 1994-1995) and one UEFA Cup (Juventus 1992-1993). Innumerable were his individual awards, the most important of which were the Ballon d’Oro and the FIFA World Player, both won in 1993.

Between all competitions Baggio has put together with clubs 643 appearances and 291 goals. With the national team he totaled 56 appearances and 27 goals, virtually single-handedly leading Italy to the 1994 World Cup final, only to miss the last of the penalty kicks in the final lost to Brazil. He played in three editions of the World Cup. He retired in 2004.

Sinner ended 2025 at world No. 2 by winning six tournaments: the Australian Open, Wimbledon, Beijing, Vienna, Paris Masters 1000 and the ATP Finals in Turin, giving up Davis Cup finals to rest his best for the new year, in which he will try to take back the world No. 1 and take it away from Carlos Alcaraz.
