For the first time in history, the Alpine Skiing World Cup makes a stop in Livigno (Sondrio): the sprinters were able to get a first familiarity in the morning with the Li Zeta slope that will host the fourth SuperG of the season. The start is at 2374 m at Rifugio Costaccia with the first flat meters before entering the first wall, below Croce di Valandrea. Then a traverse anticipates the second, very steep, wall, the Larici wall, where the more technical athletes will be able to make the most of their skills and take advantage of the tracing. At the end of the wall of the Larches, an impressive jump will enter the athletes in the final part of the Li Zeta course.

There will be nine Azzurri competing: Marco Abbruzzese, Benjamin Alliod, Guglielmo Bosca, Mattia Casse, Giovanni Franzoni, Christof Innerhofer, Dominik Paris, Max Perathoner and Florian Schieder. “It’s a slope that I like – said Franzoni, fresh off his first career podium in the SuperG in Val Gardena -. There is a nice snow to ski, maybe a hair aggressive like in NorthAmerica, given the temperatures these days. The jump is short, but it is a slope I like. I expect small gaps just because of the type of snow and the technical difficulty, which is not very high. It will be a very fun super-G to ski.”

“It is a technical slope, where I imagine we will all be attacked – are the words of Casse, out of the top ten in the’last SuperG on the Saslong -; the sun will light up the course since the early morning: we will see how the tracing will be, but it will still be a sprint race and there won&#8217t be so much to look around. It will be to attack. I was expecting a little bit harder, maybe because of the snowfall of the past few days: the tendency is not to get wet, we’ll see how the bottom will be after the reconnaissance smoothing.”

I think it could be a good race, the snow is aggressive and we will have to be careful not to affect too much with the edges – said Paris -We will see how the track will be, from my side I think those who are more used to the giant might be more advantaged on this type of track. My hope is that we Italians will also be able to have our say: I am quite calm, I enjoy skiing and the’order is not to make mistakes!”.

The start is set for 11:30 a.m., with Marco Odermatt in the red bib of the specialty leader with a full score. “I like the slope, it is very nice – said the overall and SuperG leader -The fact that it is exposed to the sun is an advantage for all of us athletes. The snow is aggressive despite not being very hard, it will be nice to ski there”.
