The soccer world is mourning the tragic death of Fernando Martín Carreras and three of his children: the coach of Valencia’s women’s team died following a boat accident near the island of Padar, east of Bali, Indonesia. This is the statement from the Spanish club: “Valencia is deeply saddened by the death of Fernando Martín, coach of the Valencia women&#8217s B team, and three of his children in a tragic boat accident in Indonesia, as confirmed by local authorities”.

“On behalf of the club, we would like to send, at such a difficult time for everyone, our support and condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of Valencia CF Women and Academia VCF” concludes the note circulated on the club’s social channels. According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, also on the boat were Fernando Martín’s wife, Andrea Ortuño, and another daughter. The latter, along with four crew members and a tour guide, were rescued by local authorities.

Enrique Ortuño, Fernando Martín&#8217s father-in-law, spoke to Agencia EFE: “My daughter and granddaughter were thrown off the boat because they were on a higher level. They fell overboard and were rescued but my three grandchildren and my son-in-law were probably trapped in the boat, which broke apart and sank quickly. My daughter and granddaughter are safe and I am in constant contact with them thanks also to the Indonesian and Spanish authorities who are helping me a lot”.
