Alex De Minaur changes strategy against Jannik Sinner

Alex De Minaur knows full well how tough and oppressive the Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz duopoly is on the ATP circuit: the Australian tennis player has lost thirteen out of thirteen matches against the South Tyrolean champion, and five out of five matches against the current Spanish world number one. A hefty 18-0, but the ‘Demon’ has not yet resigned himself to competing at the highest level. After a long preparation, De Minaur has made several changes to his game and will look to showcase them in his home tournament, the Australian Open, which kicks off in January.

“I have played very hard-fought matches with both of them over the years and I have felt that I have been getting closer and closer”, assured the world number 7. “I worked on my game, and I found new weapons. I had to find ways to challenge these great players. I will take more risks and try to destroy their game” De Minaur explained. “There are a couple of things here and there that we have tried to work on, hoping to take the next step. There&#8217s no other way but to improve to beat them”.

De Minaur has changed his coaching staff and added a new athletic trainer. “Physically I feel very good, this was probably the longest break I have had in a long time”. De Minaur, who will make his debut next week with Team Australia in the United Cup, feels ready for the new season. “I have had time to relax and train for the new season. I want to make sure I am in the best possible condition” he explained at the press conference. “It is important for me to always start well in Australia”.

“What I have discovered over the years, to be at my best in tennis, is that I have to be able to unplug when I am off the court. It’s my way of making sure I don&#8217t get exhausted. It’s important to unplug and make sure I&#8217m 100 percent when I get back on the court” continued the Demon.

“It is no secret that the’Australian Open is a tournament where I want to do well and where I want to play my best tennis– said De Minaur -For all the Australians competing, there is nothing we want more than to play well in front of our home fans”. De Minaur, 10 career titles, had his best Australian Open result last season, when he made it all the way to the quarterfinals.
