Inter, fans divided over Barella. So many attack him: "Inadequate for these levels"

What is going on between Nicolò Barella and Inter fans? Thousands of comments against the Nerazzurri midfielder arrived on social media after his performance during the Champions League match against Arsenal’Arsenal. The Sardinian player seemed in great physical difficulty against the English, as did much of the team, and failed to shine. This is not a coincidence: it has been several months that part of the Nerazzurri fans have been targeting the former Cagliari midfielder, who was also challenged after the game against Lecce a few days ago.

Both against Lecce and the Gunners, Barella was substituted after about an hour of play: the tight schedule takes its toll even on a dynamo like him. But the fans are not forgiving: “I am very sorry to see Barella in this condition. He is becoming deleterious defensively but especially in the last 30 meters. I do not remember such a setback at 28 years of age”, “He has always been one of my idols but this is the worst season of his career at Inter”, “Barella a phenomenon only when he has to scold his teammates”, is the tenor of the comments on X.

Inter fans are very harsh and some have lost hope: “Barella is not fit for these levels. Anyone can move him”, “Barella is bullied by all of Europe, he almost sucks”, “It is funny when Barella spreads his arms if others make mistakes but others should do it a million times with him”. Barella has played almost every game this season, and almost always as a starter: several fans defend him for that very reason.

“The disrespect towards Barella is absurd. He has been running nonstop for the team for about 5 years. He has clearly run out of gas”, wrote a fan on the side of the Sardinian midfielder.

At Inter since 2020, Barella recently extended his contract until 2029 and is one of the team’s veterans. Against Lecce, in Lautaro’s absence, he also wore the captain’s armband.
