Fabio Lopez, whose adventure at Fassell in Liberia is going swimmingly, had a chance to meet George Weah, the absolute star player seen in Italy with the Milan jersey and the first non-European Ballon d’Or, in 1995.

“An exceptional person, he told me about his experience at AC Milan, how Fabio Capello had wanted him. He still expresses himself perfectly in Italian and told me that he misses pizza: it was a really pleasant hour, with a man who has done so much for soccer and still certainly will do and with whom it was very interesting to discuss the most beautiful sport in the world, ours” the quoted Roman technician told Sportal.it.

“I am doing very well here, I have a very passionate president, Cassell Anthony Kuoh Sr, who wants to revolutionize soccer in this nation. By the way, in the break that there was for the African Cup of Nations, he made me available to the Brazilian players, to raise the level of a group that is a pleasure to work with” added Lopez.

Born in 1973, a former goalkeeper, Lopez has built much of his career away from Italy: in addition to his experience as Bangladesh’s technical commissioner, with whom he played in the World Cup qualifiers, he has coached in Lithuania, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Vietnam, and most recently in South Africa. He has recently seen his name linked with clubs in the Egyptian and Tunisian top leagues.

Weah, father of Timothy, whom Juventus turned over on loan to Olympique Marseille, was president of Liberia from Jan. 22, 2018 to Jan. 22, 2024.
