After yet another crushing victory over Ben Shelton, Jannik Sinner has qualified for the Australian Open semifinals for the third consecutive year. As in last year&#8217s edition, the world and seeded number two will find Novak Djokovic, No. 4 in the ATP rankings and seeding, on the other side of the net, who benefited from the very unfortunate withdrawal of Lorenzo Musetti, who was forced to raise the white flag due to an adductor problem in his right leg when he was leading by two sets.

Novak Djokovic outraged after question about Jannik Sinner
The Serbian tennis player got annoyed by what he was asked in the press conference

"I am chasing Alcaraz and Sinner like I used to follow Federer and Nadal? It seems disrespectful to me"
"So am I always the one chasing and never the one being chased?"
"Meanwhile I won 24 Slams, I find it a bit disrespectful to ignore the 15 years I dominated the Slams"

"I don’t feel like a chaser"

"I have great respect for Jannik and Carlos, and I’m sure they will continue like this for years"

"Their level of tennis is so high but it doesn’t mean I give up"

"I will fight to the end"

Djokovic also complained about cameras in the Australian Open locker room tunnel
"I think a limit should be put in place, we need a space that is really ours"

The match between the Blue and the Serb will close the program at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Friday, Jan. 30. Jannik and Nole will take the court no earlier than 09:30 a.m. Italian time (7:30 p.m. local time). Opening the program at 02:00 Italian time (12:00 local time) will be the mixed doubles final between the Australian pair of Olivia Gadecki and John Peers and the French pair of Kristina Mladenovic and Manuel Guinard, then no earlier than 04:30 Italian time (14:30 local time) it will be Carlos Alcaraz’s turn, opposing Alexander Zverev, in the first semifinal.

The first semifinal will be held in the first semifinal.

There are ten previous ATP matches between Sinner and Djokovic, with the Alto Adige player holding a 6-4 advantage. Sinner has won 6 of the last 7 meetings (Wimbledon 2025 semifinal, Roland Garros 2025 semifinal, Shanghai 2024 Masters 1000 final, Australian Open 2024 semifinal, Davis Cup 2023 semifinal, ATP Finals 2023 round). The 24-time Slam champion, on the other hand, has won the round of 16 at the 2021 Masters 1000 Monte Carlo, twice at Wimbledon (quarterfinals in 2022 and semifinals in 2023), and in the final at the ATP Finals in 2023.

Sinner and Djokovic also faced each other in the semifinals at the last Six Kings Slam in Riyadh. It was the Azure who prevailed in two sets (6-4 6-2). “We are lucky to have a champion like Novak, who at his age can still express himself at this level. It will be a beautiful and complicated challenge” said Jannik ahead of the penultimate act of the Australian major. Then, with a smile, he added: “If I can, I will also take a look at the semifinal between Alcaraz and Zverev”.
