The defeat of Jannik Sinner in the semifinals at the Australian Open against veteran Novak Djokovic, who after a marathon of more than four hours overcame the Italian (twice recovering a set disadvantage) erasing the dreams of a historic trio on the concrete of Melbourne, continues to cause discussion, and it could not be otherwise. “The fact remains that Jannik reached a semifinal and played a tournament of the highest level. You cannot win all the time – added the winner of 22 Slam tournaments -. Although Rafa Nadal himself has won more than twenty Grand Slam tournaments (including as many as 14 editions of Roland Garros between 2005 and 2022), he has come to terms in his career with eight defeats in the finals and as many eliminations in the semifinals in the four most important tournaments on the circuit, further confirmation that a sport like tennis is impossible to dominate one hundred percent.
