Andrea Vavassori centers the main draw of the Montpellier ATP 250. After eliminating Roberto Carballes Baena, third seed in the qualifying draw and world number 175, in two sets, the Azzurro was confirmed with Hugo Grenier, number 8 in the seeding and 189 in the ATP ranking, in the decisive round. 6-3 7-6 was the final score in favor of the Piedmontese, accrued after just over an hour and a half of play.

In the first set we proceeded expeditiously on serve until 3-3. In the fateful seventh game Grenier drags Vavassori to the advantages and gets the first break point of the match but the Azure cancels it with a winner. In the next game, it is the Turinese who gets a break chance and scores by forcing the Frenchman into an error. Called to serve for the set, Andrea does not tremble and with a couple of aces closes the partial (6-3).

The second partial is more balanced: in the third game Vavassori wins two consecutive break points but the transalpine, thanks also to an ace, saves himself. In the ninth game l’Azzurro, who concedes crumbs on serve, earns two more break chances but Grenier comes out great again. It thus comes down to the tie-break dominated by Vavassori, who wins it 7 points to 1, thanks also to two bloody double faults by the Frenchman.

Thanks to this success Vavassori joins Flavio Cobolli and Luca Nardi in the main draw of the Occitanie Open. The Roman, second seed, will debut directly in the round of 16 with just one between the Marche player and Nikolosz Basilashvili, world number 137.
