Tina Maze, the Slovenian skiing star with two Olympic gold and two silver medals to her credit, is part of Eurosport’s team of commentators for Milano Cortina 2026: on HBO Max and discovery+ 865 hours of live competitions, enhanced by three daily studio appointments from the main Olympic venues, for a total of more than 1,000 hours.

The champion, who ended her very brilliant career in 2017, granted an exclusive interview to Sportal.it on the sidelines of the presentation of the full coverage of the Five Circles event held in the Lombard capital.

All eyes are on the protagonists but Tina also does not forget those who had to miss the event such as one of her historical opponents, Lara Gut-Behrami: “I was so sorry for what happened. When you are here you talk about the athletes present but it is right to dwell also on her, one of the greatest skiers I have known, with whom I have often competed and trained with. Lara is also a wonderful person and I hope that the rehabilitation goes in the best way”.

“Although I no longer compete I still get so excited about sports and I am happy to be able to tell about it through Eurosport – she adds -: the emotions that the Olympics give you are the greatest also because the Games are there every four years”.

Slovenia is a relatively small nation, but it churns out so many champions… “I am very proud of my origins – she says -. We are really strong because sport, with us, is the third most important subject in school: it has only the Slovenian language and mathematics in front of it. This creates a really great base on which the coaches then work by cultivating talent. I am also very happy with the way Italy has always welcomed me”.

“Of both Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone I expect their best version in this Olympics, although the path to the appointment has been tortuous, for various reasons, as we all know. I think the last few outings have given both of them more confidence and their talent is not in question” Maze’s conclusion.
