The second day of MotoGP collective winter testing in Sepang ended with rain, which limited the work planned for the afternoon. After the best time recorded on the first day, Marc Marquez explained that the bad weather forced Ducati to postpone some important tests. In particular, with regard to the development of the bike, which will be focused on on Wednesday with less attention to the fast lap.

The nine-time world champion recounted that work has focused mainly on aerodynamics, a key aspect ahead of the first race in Thailand, for which the team already has a good base. The engine remains the same as last season by regulation, while on all other elements there is the possibility to intervene during the year, which is why aerodynamics was the priority of these tests. “Aerodynamics is crucial because, when you mount an aero package, the balance of the bike changes” explained Marquez, stressing the importance of adapting to the new solutions.

The Spanish rider also clarified that four different aerodynamic configurations are being tested, with the goal of choosing the best one to tackle the entire season. The idea is to build a solid base as of now, without immediately looking for absolute performance, in order to be ready in the decisive moments of the championship, when it will be really important to be in front.

From a physical point of view, Marquez said he feels in good condition, despite the fatigue accumulated on a demanding track like Sepang. “Physically I feel pretty good” he added, explaining that he rode more loosely than on the first day and completed longer runs.

Finally, the Catalan star said he did not compare data with either Pecco Bagnaia or his brother Alex, preferring to focus only on his own sensations: “I did not look at anything, not even a lap in telemetry”. The day was dedicated to testing new solutions, with the use of the medium tire in the morning and the soft in the afternoon, not to look for time, but to continue the work on aerodynamics that will continue on the last day of testing.
