The situation regarding Dayot Upamecano&#8217s contract renewal with Bayern Munich continues to cause discussion: the negotiations were very long and, just when it seemed on the verge of foundering, the defender decided to sign the new deal. Thanks to the new contract, Upamecano will receive 20 million euros a year until 2030 and a signing bonus of 20 million euros. Max Eberl would not have wanted to grant the bonus but the French defender made it a necessary condition for signing.

Dayot Upamecano&#8217s demands and behavior have not pleased many, rta the most critical is certainly L’former Hamburg CEO and federation executive Heribert Bruchhagen: “Bayern Munich is a top club: you don–t leave there – he told Sky Sports -. I have always made offers to players and there has never been renegotiation. For me to renegotiate would mean making a worse offer”.

“If you hold this line consistently, you are doing the good of your club and the players will comply. I would not have put up with this theatrics: I would have lost my patience and said ‘let him leave’”. On social media, many Bayern Munich fans are of the same opinion as Bruchhagen and feel that Upamecano has not behaved well at all.

Bayern Munich owner Uli Hoeneß said he was “horrified” by the affair and Matthias Sammer was also very critical: “I would abolish all agents. First, they make too much money. Second, they are useless, and third, they do not create a good relationship between player and club. This is not good. There sits a sports director, or a member of the sports council, with a consultant. They talk to the player who may not be there. But the person who negotiates makes three times the sports director’s annual salary. It is just crazy”.

Before he signed his contract renewal with Bayern Munich, Dayot Upamecano was courted by several clubs: Real Madrid was among the most interested but Paris Saint Germain and Liverpool were also on his trail. Inter Milan gathered information but the financial aspect was too big an obstacle to overcome.
