100 million euro bonus, Bayern fans are perplexed
After a very long negotiation that lasted for several months, Bayern Munich finally seems to have reached an agreement with Dayot Upamecano for a contract renewal until 2030. The French player will receive a 20 million euro salary and, upon signing, Bayern will pay him another 20 million euros as a bonus.
This is not the first time Bayern Munich has lavished rich bonuses upon signing: it also happened to Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich and many others. This is a totally different strategy from that adopted by the world’s other top clubs, which have long been working to drastically reduce signing bonuses to players and bonuses to their attorneys.
A clear example is Real Madrid: for several months the club has been negotiating with Vinicius for a contract renewal, and the Brazilian star player has asked for several tens of millions of euros as signing bonuses, a request deemed unacceptable by Florentino Perez. Despite the fact that the pressure is constantly mounting, the club has no intention of negotiating with Vinicius on this option.
Bayern Munich fans on social media are stirring up a great debate regarding the bonus issue and questioning why Max Eberl and colleagues continue to bestow these huge sums: in the last year, a total of 100 million euros shelled out in bonuses is reported.
In the meantime, the long-awaited announcement regarding the contract of Serge Gnabry, who has signed a renewal until 2028 with the Bavarian club, has also arrived:“I am happy to be able to play for Bayern for several more years, the negotiations have been consistently positive and I never imagined that I would stay here for so long. My goal is to continue on this path: we are a real family and can achieve great things. The reasons I extended my contract are the team, the technical staff, the’whole club, the fans, the city, the’environment: I feel very comfortable at Bayern”.
