At his fifth participation in the Games, after a seemingly endless series of regrets, Dominik Paris finally managed to get on the Olympic podium for the first time.

The veteran Italian finished in third place in the Five Circles Downhill, finishing behind Franjo von Allmen and Giovanni Franzoni and mocking the eve’s favorite (and disappointment of the day) Marco Odermatt. On the podium, the 36-year-old did not hide his joy at a result that seemed like it would never come.

“I had tried so many times that I almost didn’t believe it anymore – he said on the sidelines of the race, to the microphones of Rai Sport -. I skied with a feeling of total confidence, as if I could do exactly what I wanted in every turn. It is a rare feeling, one in which everything seems to work and the body responds without hesitation. Maybe on the St. Peter and in the lower part I wasn&#8221t as perfect as I would have liked, a few details I left on the road, but overall I was satisfied with my test beyond the result”.

"For the duration of the Games I will wear Marco's earring", announced the Frenchman.

The Pantani family lent the'iconic accessory to the biathlete for the Games in Italy.
"This earring symbolizes the'daring, the courage, the desire to attack when no one dares".
As a child Jacquelin became passionate watching Pantani’s 1998 Tour de France videotape.
"I dreamed of being like him: not just winning, but thrilling and exciting".

The biathlete hit three seasonal podiums in the individual trials before the Olympics.
In Antholz Jacquelin goes after her first personal Olympic medal.

Anterselva is also a special location for his childhood friend Nans Peters.

Peters won a stage at the Giro d'Italia 2019 and is linked to Anterselva as Jacquelin.

“After so many races where something was always missing, this time the level was right: it” is perfectly fine, added Paris. The blue champion then congratulated Franzoni, who stood together with him on the podium wearing the silver medal: “You can clearly see that he is in an extraordinary condition. Today he showed that he can hold his own even when the pressure is on, and this is an important signal: it means that we have another young man capable of steadily inserting himself in the fight for the top positions”.

“He is the kind of athlete who, race after race, can stay there at the front and play with the best– added Paris, speaking of his teammate.”

For Italy, this is wonderful news: having another competitive talent at this level gives us additional ambition, and above all it is confirmation that the movement is growing in the right direction”.

For Dominik Paris, today&#8217s is the closing of a circle: to the class of 1989 athlete, who had had his best season in 2019 winning the rainbow gold in Aare in Super-G and the World Cup in the same specialty, finally came the Olympic satisfaction after years of disappointments, the most bitter one represented by the fourth place in the downhill in Pyeongchang in 2018.
