Novak Djokovic, as an Olympic champion in Paris 2024, attended the Opening Ceremony of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics with his family. After witnessing the great spectacle staged in the San Siro stadium where Milan, a team of which he is a fan, also plays, he was intercepted on his way back by Corriere della Sera: “It&#8217s been a beautiful show, as always. It is always nice to be in Italy. Italy is a country of sports”.

“A show was expected and we saw it – added the Serbian tennis player -. For me it was the first time at a Winter Olympics opening ceremony and it was a great thrill. I am very happy to have had this experience together with my family”. The Los Angeles 2032 Summer Games seem far away: “Yes, they are. At this time in my life and career they are, however, it is clear that I still have the desire to get there”.

A clear message to Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who will have to deal with the winningest in tennis history for a few more years. And it was also seen in Australia, where the South Tyrolean surrendered in the fifth set of the semifinals while the Spaniard had to sweat out his triumph: “Do I continue to hold my own against the younger players? Yes, you have to do that. And then, after all, you have to think you are still young”.

Sofia Goggia in Cortina, Alberto Tomba and Deborah Compagnoni in Milan: the three blue legends of alpine skiing had the honor of receiving, last, the Olympic flashlights designated to light the braziers placed in the two venues of the twenty-fifth Winter Games.

The ceremony ended around 11:30 p.m. and, as per tradition, the lighting of the braziers was scheduled at the conclusion of a long evening marked by the presence of many guests, even those far from the world of sports.
