Just days after losing in the semifinals in Doha to Heliovaara and Patten, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori hit the road again in neighboring Dubai, overcoming the first round of the doubles tournament against Sriram Balaji Narayanaswamy of India and Neil Oberleitner of Austria. The match played on Tuesday was decidedly balanced: 5-7, 7-6(8), 10-5 was the score in favor of the two Italians, who had to fight for an hour and forty-eight minutes before they could celebrate their success.

Awaiting Bolelli and Vavassori in the quarterfinals scheduled for Thursday will be Czechs Petr Nouza and Patrik Rilk, who in the first round defeated a pair of strong singles players, such as Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands and Arthur Rinderknech of France, with a clear 6-3-62 in just under an hour total of play. Nouza and Rikl had also participated in Doha, entering the main draw as lucky losers in the final qualifying round but surrendering in the first round against Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic.

Francesco LuciveroAryna Sabalenka’s new look is irresistible: photos

Not gone unnoticed Belarusian outfielder Aryna Sabalenka at the'debut in Melbourne
She left her mark among those present not only for the way she played and for her grit
Earrings, necklace, tattoo… as well as colorful clothing prepared for her by her technical sponsor
On the court, then, the world’s number 1 tennis player unleashed all her grit
In fact in the first set French Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah gave her a hard time
The 20-year-old transalpine took the luxury of snatching service from her strongest rival immediately
Obviously the Belarusian gave her back her serve in the next game

So the queen of world tennis, while not mind-blowing, took home the set with a score of 6-4

In the second segment of the game Sabalenka engaged the high gears and for the rival there'was little to do
The set ended with an eloquent and otherwise not unpredictable 6-1 in favor of Aryna
Rakotomanga, world number 118, was on the board thanks to a wild card
Aryna once again brought her experience and extraordinary effectiveness to bear on Australian concrete…
… so, happy and smiling, she posed for a selfie to dedicate to millions of fans

Bolelli and Vavassori are looking for their ninth claim as a pair on the major circuit: they have already won a tournament in 2026, confirming themselves as champions in Rotterdam in the final last Feb. 12 against Taiwan’s Ray Ho and Germany’s Hendrik Jebens, with ul score of 6-3, 6-4.

The other tournaments won by the two blues together are Buenos Aires, Halle and Beijing 2024, Adelaide, Rotterdam, Hamburg and Washington in 2025. Not to be forgotten, also, is the presence of the two in the Italian team that last November confirmed victory in the Davis Cup for the third consecutive year, although the doubles was not played either in the quarters against Austria, in the semifinals against Belgium or in the final against Spain.
