Host is hardest against Eileen Gu, fans up in arms

In recent weeks, thanks mainly to her participation in the Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina, there has been a lot of talk about Eileen Gu. The Chinese champion, who is very popular on social networks, has been overwhelmed by a’wave of affection from the Italian public, and one fan even proposed to her by writing the proposal on a sheet hanging outside the balcony of a hotel near the slopes.
There was no shortage, however, of inappropriate comments on social media and beyond. During the latest episode of his podcast, former NFL champion and TV commentator Boomer Esiason had this to say about Eileen Gu: “She is a very attractive woman and she is extremely intelligent. She studied at Stanford. But if you listen to her interviews after the races, she is insufferable. Really, it’s hard to listen to her. On the other hand, this is an individual sport, with an athlete talking about herself instead of her teammates or the support she gets. If you listen to her, you get, “What is she saying?””.
The’former Cincinnati Bengals champion later criticized the champion’s choice to compete for China and not the United States (despite being born and raised in the United States, Eileen Gu in 2019 decided to represent China in international competitions). Many fans, however, harshly attacked Boomer Esiason, claiming that the host used tone and arguments that were completely out of line. The NFL’s MVP in 1988 was also criticized for overemphasizing the champion’s physical appearance.
Recently Eileen Gu attended an event organized by TLC and gave a great life lesson: “There is tremendous power in winning by showing one’s difficulties and vulnerability: it gives others the strength to feel that they too can take this path. If I made it, anyone can try to make it.”
“I am not here to parade around with medals or to tell everyone that I am the best ever, the point is something else: if I can do it, then everyone else should also try” said the Chinese outfielder.
