On the eve of the eagerly awaited championship match against AC Milan, AC Milan coach Maurizio Sarri answered reporters’ questions in a press conference without hiding too much, especially when the topic of his possible farewell at the end of the season was broached, despite the fact that the contract that binds him to the club expires in 2027 and includes an option for one more season. What has happened this year, however, between market-related difficulties and the issue related to fan protest, has put everything back on the table.

“The’ideal is that next season will not be a year zero but at least a year one. The current situation, however, suggests otherwise. I have a contract and I intend to abide by it, but if the company makes other evaluations I will have no problem adjusting accordingly. This is what” Sarri, who returned to coach Lazio last summer after having already faced a first parenthesis in biancoceleste, between 2022 and March 2024, said.

Relating to the relationship with the fans, who have preannounced their presence against AC Milan after the last matches played in a practically empty Olimpico, Sarri said: “I am very happy that they are there, I hope to thank them also with a good result but the match will be very difficult. The fans are always important: I usually do not go under the curve at the end of the game, out of respect for my players because the stage must’be all theirs, but I think I will go tomorrow to thank them”.

Lazio arrives at Sunday night’s match against Milan in a rather up-and-down period, however, fresh from a 2-1 victory over Sassuolo last Monday, a success that accrued thanks to goals by Daniel Maldini and Adam Marusic, the latter in the midst of recovery. Lazio and Milan have already faced each other on two occasions this year: the Rossoneri won 1-0 in the first leg in the league at the San Siro, with Rafael Leao’s goal in the early second half, while the Biancocelesti won in the Coppa Italia at the Stadio Olimpico, again 1-0, with Zaccagni’s goal in the final.
