It seemed all written and, instead, surprisingly, the Indian Wells Masters 1000 final will not feature Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. If the Italian did his homework, overcoming Alexander Zverev in the semifinals, the world No. 1 collapsed against Daniil Mervedev who, leaving everyone speechless, managed the feat of eliminating the Spaniard and gaining a pass to the very final.

Milan could host an ATP 250 tournament starting in 2028.
It is the indiscretion launched by the Corriere della Sera, according to which the project bears the signature of Angelo Binaghi, president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation.

He would have bought from the ATP the rights to the tournament played so far in Brussels.

The deal would reportedly be worth $24 million, to which would be added 10% of the proceeds to be paid to the ATP.
The ATP would, however, have placed a condition linked to the calendar: the new tournament would have to be played on grass, thus becoming the first Italian event on this surface, and be placed immediately after Roland Garros.
A request that the federation would accept, with the goal – in the medium term – of growing the event and attempting the category leap from ATP 250 to ATP 500.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy of development of Italian tennis, a movement that in recent years is experiencing a phase of strong expansion and great international visibility.
The dream of Milanese fans is to see Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

Initially it might be difficult but if the tournament goes up a level it is certainly not to be ruled out.

especially for Sinner it would be a nice way to prepare for Wimbledon.

The sponsors of course would be very happy to see him in Milan.

It will be curious to see where it will be played, given the chosen surface.

Almost a perfect match for the Russian who prevailed over Carlos Alcaraz in two sets: 6-3, 7-6 the match partials in one’hour and 37′ of play). Monstrous first set by the 30-year-old Russian who never gave the Spaniard a chance to get into the match. In the second set, reaction of Carlos Alcaraz but Daniil Medvedev did not lose concentration, answering blow after blow and, at tie-break, came the victory, one of the most important of his career.

For Carlos Alcaraz this is the first stop in 2026. To date he had always won, annihilating all opponents. The loss to the Russian ends a streak of as many as 16 wins in a row. In fact, if you also count wins on concrete in 2025, he had not lost in 34 consecutive matches (the’last stop in 2025, at the Miami Masters 1000, beaten by David Goffin). He will return to the court in Miami of all places to start again, from scratch, his winning streak, resoundingly broken by Daniil Medvedev.

Daniil Medvedev will, therefore, play the very final of the 2026 edition of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 against Jannik Sinner. After beating the world No. 1, he dreams of knocking out the world No. 2 as well and certifying his return to the top of tennis. However the final act with Jannik Sinner (his black beast in recent challenges) will go, he will be back in the Top 10 as of Monday. The 30-year-old Russian has already played two finals, in 2023 and 2024, both of which he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.
