Antonio Conte doesn’t give up on the Scudetto: "Napoli, let’s keep it up"

Napoli is again second in the Serie A standings, ahead of AC Milan, which fell in a direct clash at the Maradona Stadium. Leading Inter Milan remains 7 points away, and seven are the games left before the championship ends. The gap is therefore substantial, but Antonio Conte has admitted that the Scudetto goal has not gone off his and the reigning Italian champion team’s radar. Although the path to reach it is definitely complicated, and above all also dependent on the mistakes of others.
“The question is not to believe in the Scudetto,” Conte pointed out to ‘DAZN’. “We have to be very realistic, to be aware that from now on Napoli can never do anything wrong. At the same time we have to hope that in front they make mistakes, and not just once. Seeing the results Inter is getting, it seems tough. But we must still keep our foot on the accelerator, proudly defending our Scudetto until the end. We are second, we won the Italian Super Cup. We have to continue in this way.”
“We still have seven games left to play,” Conte continued in his analysis. “Our goal is the Champions League, and tonight we took an important step to conquer it. If Milan and Juventus have set this as their goal, I don’t see why it should be different for Napoli. Then we have to continue to stay there. We know that Inter is deserving to lead the Serie A standings, but we stay there and we must continue to think always about ourselves and our path.”
“Having beaten Milan leaves us with a lot of confidence and enthusiasm,” Conte stressed, however. It should not be forgotten that if we are second we have to thank all the boys who reacted to the many absences that have marked Napoli this year. Others would have foundered, they did something extraordinary.”
Decisive turned out to be Matteo Napolitano, about whom Conte wanted to tell a backstory. “I was joking with him today, I predicted him coming on the field with Milan a bit more tired. I’m very happy that he scored, but really everyone here always makes themselves available,” revealed the Napoli coach.
