The Reyer Venezia is reportedly considering a reinforcement in the long department, with the focus on Oumar Ballo, currently at Pallacanestro Cantù. The Malian center, class of 2002, recently changed agencies and was linked to the Brianza club for one season last summer. He is also liked in Spain, where Baskonia’s name is mentioned.

Born July 13, 2002 in Koulikoro, Ballo is a 213-cm, 118-pound long man who makes physicality his main strength. On the court, he stands out for an energetic and dominant game in the basket, proving incisive both on offense and defense.

After a high-level collegiate career, he chose Cantù to begin his European experience. Already a protagonist at the 2018 Under-17 World Championships with averages of 20.6 points and 16.9 rebounds, he had ended up on the radar of top clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid, but then opted for the United States, where he played with Gonzaga (2020/21), Arizona (2021 to 2024) and Indiana (2024/25).

Throughout the season, Ballo lived up to expectations, establishing himself as one of the most fearsome centers in the entire LBA. In December, during the head-to-head matchup between Cantù and Reyer Venezia itself, the Malian center was among the best on the Brianza team with averages of 10.6 points and 9 rebounds per game. Numbers that had not gone unnoticed in the eyes of coach Neven Spahija, who had called Cantù’s players “high level” on that occasion.

Ballo’s growth has not ceased to amaze as the championship continues. Ahead of the challenge between Trieste and Cantù last March, coach Francesco Taccetti had pointed precisely to the Malian center as one of the most dangerous elements of the white and blue: “We will have to be careful to limit the impact in the area of Ballo, who in recent games is showing great growth and can be a factor near the basket.” A testimony that confirms how the player has been able to establish himself with continuity during his first European season.

This is not the first time that Ballo’s name has been approached by top clubs. As early as last summer, even before the Malian took the court with Cantù, Virtus Bologna also probed the field for a profile similar to his, proving how African centers of great physicality and athleticism are among the most sought-after profiles on the European market. Now it is Reyer that is moving decisively, aware that to secure the player it will probably have to beat competition from Baskonia and other interested clubs.
