Dino Zoff torpedoes Donnarumma: Leo Turrini’s backstory goes viral

Italy is missing the World Cup for the third time, and so is Gianluigi Donnarumma: the Azzurri goalkeeper, among the best in the world in the role, has not yet managed to participate in a rainbow review in his career. Against Bosnia, even Gigio could not do anything: in penalty kicks, his specialty, he failed to parry even one shot from the opponents.
On the occasion, images of the Manchester City goalkeeper furious after he lost the piece of paper with notes on the opponent’s shooters, which was taken from him by a young Bosnian ball boy, who became a hero in his homeland at the end of the match, went viral.
On the issue, journalist Leo Turrini revealed to Radio 24 an interesting backstory regarding legendary goalkeeper Dino Zoff, who sarcastically commented on what happened: “At Easter, my friend Dino Zoff called me for greetings. I told him, but how is it that in your time we managed to go to the World Cup? He replied to me with Friulian phlegm ‘But according to you I needed a piece of paper to save penalties for the Bosnians?’ It all adds up…,” is the indiscretion that went viral on social.
Donnarumma after the Zenica knockout had published an open letter to fans: “Last night, after the match, I cried. I cried for the disappointment of not being able to take Italy where it deserves to be. I cried for the enormous sadness that I am feeling, along with the entire Azzurri group of which I am proud to be captain, and that I know, at this moment, you, the fans of our national team, are also feeling. Now words are of little use, it’s true.”
“But one thing I feel strongly inside and I want to share it with you: after such a big disappointment, you have to find the courage to turn the page, once again. And that takes a lot of strength, passion and conviction. Always believe, that is the engine to move forward. Because life knows how to reward those who give everything, without sparing themselves. And this is where we must start again. Together. Once again. To bring Italy back to where it deserves to be.”
