After the great victory against AC Milan that earned second place in the league, Antonio Conte also spoke about his future and, contextually, that of the national team. The current Napoli coach explained, in no uncertain terms, that his name should be among those being looked at to take the place of outgoing coach Rino Gattuso.

“If I were the president of the Federation I would consider myself, along with others: for many reasons Conte I would put him. I have already been there in the national team and I know the environment. It flatters me because it is something beautiful to represent one’s country. You know very well that I have another year of my contract and that at the end of the year I will meet with the president,” his words at the press conference.

Antonio Conte also dwelt on the moment that Italian soccer is going through: “I’m sorry that if we had reached qualification for the World Cup maybe on penalties, people would have talked about a great feat and great soccer. Unfortunately, results count, but after three World Cups you have to do something serious. When I was ct there was a lot of talk, but I found little help even from the teams. Now everything is a disaster, but even in disasters there is something to save. We have to understand that if things don’t go, they don’t go whether you qualify or not. If we had qualified, there would have been triumphalist tones for everyone. We didn’t. We played at a great level and something will be done.”

In short, Antonio Conte, in fact, has not ruled out his return to the bench of the national team, which he already coached from 2014 to 2016. First, however, he wants to close the current season as best he can and, above all, he has to deal with President Aurelio De Laurentiis, as he still has one year left on his contract with the Neapolitan club. In short, the ball is in the Napoli president’s court.
