The fight for salvation is on with seven days left in the championship. Verona’s and Pisa’s two away defeats against Fiorentina and Torino, respectively, have almost doomed the Veneti and Tuscans, who are paired on 18 points at the bottom of the standings. For them, salvation is a mirage: the fourth-last place is 9 points away.

The battle is instead more open than ever to avoid the third-last place: in contention are Parma (35 points), Genoa (33), Fiorentina (32), Cagliari (30), Cremonese (27) and Lecce (27). Torino thanks to the away win in Verona now seems safe, +9 in the standings from the relegation zone.

In case of finishing tied on points, the teams will have to play a salvation playoff. In case three or more clubs arrive tied on points, the avulse ranking criteria (direct clashes, goal difference in direct clashes, total goal difference, goals scored) will be used to determine a ranking order: only the 17th and 18th will play the playoff.
