Varese basketball, comes a'indiscretion that has the resounding

Clamorous turn for the future of Varese Basketball. According to a report by Radio Rossonera, the plan of Milan president and RedBird founder Gerry Cardinale involves the transfer of the sports title of the historic red and white club to Milan.

The new team would play in a 15,000-seat arena that should rise in the San Francesco area in San Donato Milanese. The same source stresses that there has been no contact with MalpensaFiere: pushed also by the NBA’s indications, the plan is that a European franchise could exist only in Milan, using precisely the sports title of Varese.

Olimpia Milano, according to rumors, remains completely uninvolved in this project. “The 15,000-seat arena in San Donato Milanese represents the main solution for a basketball team destined to be part of NBA Europe. The franchise in question is Varese, not Olimpia Milano,” reports Radio Rossonera.

The concept is clearly reiterated: “It will not be played in Varese, but on the grounds of San Donato. The transfer of the team from Varese to Milan is also happening because of the precise will of NBA Europe.” Any hypothesis of an arena at MalpensaFiere is also denied: “There has been no contact between Gerry Cardinale and the Varese Chamber of Commerce to build a arena there. The option of keeping the team in Varese no longer exists. The only concrete way is moving to San Donato Milanese.”

A scenario that if confirmed could shake up Italian basketball. According to reports in early April, RedBird had already probed the ground with Olimpia Milano to join the NBA Europe project, but the Milanese club had not taken a clear position, partly because of its existing contract with the Euroleague. Faced with Olimpia’s uncertainty, the U.S. fund would therefore have decided to take the alternative route, knocking on the door of Luis Scola, one of the key men of Varese Basketball as well as its co-owner. The former Argentine basketball player, deeply connected to the NBA world after experiences with the Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers, would have welcomed with great interest the prospect of a partnership with RedBird.
