Jannik Sinner was very satisfied after his two-set victory over Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000. The Italian hit his seventh consecutive victory against the German tennis player, who was overcome 6-1, 6-4 almost on autopilot, showing great solidity in serve and in response.

“I am very happy, we came here looking for answers. I felt solid from the beginning and after finding the break at the beginning the match changed.” Sinner conceded just seven points in his service turns and was very comfortable on clay, a surface where he has yet to win a title in a major tournament.

Sunday’s final, his fourth consecutive in a Masters 1000: “Final with Alcaraz? Vacherot is playing great, but Carlos remains the favorite. I’m looking forward to playing the final, it’s why you wake up and train. I would have nothing to lose against Carlos. I’ve been solid from the back court, I’m happy to make another final. I’ll try to give it my all,” said Sinner, who won in March at Indian Wells and Miami.

Sinner then announced that after Sunday he will take a break before the big engagements in Madrid, Rome and Paris: “I’ll try to rest and play my best, it will be the last effort before some vacation.”

The match against Zverev unfolded in just over an hour and twenty minutes, with Sinner taking control immediately thanks to an immediate break in the first game, and then closing out the set in just 35 minutes on 6-1. In the second partial, the German put up more resistance, but the Blue remained unassailable on serve until the decisive game in the tenth game, when he wrested the serve from his opponent and put the seal on qualification. For Sinner, this is the first career final at the tournament in the Principality, and on Sunday he could become the first Italian to graduate as champion in Monte Carlo since Fabio Fognini in 2019
