L'Inter flies to the Scudetto: knocked out Cagliari at San Siro

Inter continues its ride to the Scudetto: Chivu’s team easily overcame the Cagliari hurdle, imposing itself 3-0 at home and momentarily moving to +12 on second-placed Napoli with five days left in Serie A. The 33rd-day advance at the San Siro was decided by goals from Thuram, Barella and Zielinski, who signed the Nerazzurri’s third consecutive victory. Cagliari lost its fifth game in the last six and remains 16th, 6 points behind the relegation zone.
The first half ended goalless: Pisacane’s team faced the Meazza with courage, well organized in defense and stinging in attack. Sebastiano Esposito and Palestra try to intimidate Josep Martinez, between the posts in place of Sommer. Chivu’s team grows as the minutes pass, and creates chances with Pio Esposito, Carlos Augusto and Dumfries.
In the second half, the game gets unblocked and in three minutes Inter close out the contest: at 53′ Marcus Thuram breaks the ice from a few steps on an assist from Dimarco, in his 15th decisive pass in the league. Three minutes later Barella doubled with a great shot from the edge of the area that Caprile could not parry.
Acquiring the double lead, Inter administered without any particular fuss, coming close to the third goal with a Calhanoglu free kick in 61′. The changes did not reverse the inertia of the match, and in the final Chivu’s team sealed the result with Zielinski’s 3-0: the Napoli Pole scored with a powerful shot from the limit on an assist from Dumfries. Triple whistle, San Siro applauds: the scent of Scudetto is in the air.
