Edoardo Motta made history as Lazio won the Coppa Italia final. The 21-year-old goalkeeper saves four penalties against Atalanta in the penalty lottery and drags Sarri’s Biancocelesti into the final, where they will face Inter Milan. The challenge ends 1-1 after 120′: Romagnoli was answered by Pasalic in the final of the second half. Then the goalkeeper of the Azzurri’s Under 21 team took the lead with his feats.

At the New Balance Arena the atmosphere was extraordinary but the first half was very tense given what was at stake: few emotions and even fewer shots on goal. Sarri’s team suffers Dea’s initiative but does not concede gaps and is very compact in defense. Both teams were not polished enough in attack to create dangers with continuity.

The level of play rose in the second half, at 61′ Atalanta took the lead through Ederson, but the goal was cancelled due to a foul by Krstovic on Motta in the action of the goal. The Nerazzurri protest vehemently but the referee is unyielding. Soon after, it is Lazio who complain about a penalty not awarded for an alleged hand touch by Scalvini in the Bergamasque’s box. Nervousness increases and there are sparks not only on the field but also between Palladino and Sarri.

Finale of regulation time in the heartbeat: Romagnoli in the 85th minute puts Lazio ahead on the development of a corner taken by Zaccagni, but just two minutes later the Dea equalizes, finding 1-1 with Pasalic, served by Krstovic. Atalanta stormed the Capitolini’s area and came close to making it 2-1 with Ederson and Scamacca, who hit the post in the dying minutes.

The excitement continued in extra time: at 96′ Raspadori put the Orobici ahead, but the goal was disallowed due to Zappacosta’s irregular position. The two teams are tired and can no longer create real danger, everything is decided from the penalty spot.

From eleven meters it is the fair of mistakes. After Raspadori’s goal, Tavares, Scamacca, Cataldi and Zappacosta miss in series. Isaksen and Taylor signed the Latium overtake while Motta was super by parrying the third and fourth consecutive penalties to Pasalic and De Ketelaere, dragging his team into the final.
