After beating Austrian Sebastian Ofner 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the Internazionali d’Italia, Jannik Sinner is looking for confirmations on the clay of Rome against Alexei Popyrin, an Australian born in 1999, who in the previous rounds defeated first Matteo Berrettini 6-2, 6-3 and then Jakub Mensik 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

The match will be played on Monday, May 11, at the Foro Italico’s Central Court: it is scheduled to begin no earlier than 3 p.m. and in any case at the end of the previous matches on the same court (Sorana Cirstea vs. Linda Noskova, scheduled for 11 a.m., and Coco Gauff vs. Iva Jovic, which will begin no earlier than 12 noon.30: both of these matches are valid for the round of 16 of the women’s tournament).

There are three previous meetings between Sinner and Popyrin: the first, dating back to 2021, smiled on the Australian, who was able to impose 7-5, 6-2 in the round of 16 of the Madrid Masters 1000. The second head-to-head, on the other hand, came in 2025, in the 32nd round of the US Open: 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 was the score in favor of Sinner, then a finalist defeated by Carlos Alcaraz.

Recent, finally, the most recent direct confrontation: another victory for Sinner, this time 6-3, 7-5, in the round of 16 of the Doha tournament, one of only two tournaments in which the San Candido outfielder has not lifted the trophy this season, in addition to the Australian Open in January.

The match will be visible on TV, free to air, on Tv8, which will also offer it in streaming on its official website. Sky Sports subscribers will also be able to watch it on the dedicated channels of the broadcaster’s sports bouquet, via satellite and streaming on Now.
