De Minaur wanted Nick Kyrgios on the Australian team involved in the Davis Cup.

Three weeks after Australia’s defeat in the Davis Cup final against Canada (itself Italy’s executioner in the semifinals), Alex de Minaur has revealed, to the ‘Sydney Morning Herald,’ a backstory on the final round of the most important tournament for nations concerning compatriot Nick Kyrgios, who was a big absentee by personal choice.

Together with Australia’s non-player captain Lleyton Hewitt, De Minaur “had a conversation with Nick, but he said he was not available to play. He just didn’t want to be on the court, that’s how it went,” said the 1999-class tennis player.

Kyrgios and De Minaur, on the other hand, will star in the United Cup, a tournament for mixed teams that will be played right in Australia between the last days of 2022 and the first days of 2023. “We will do everything we can to give Australia a victory, playing at home,” he said. “It would mean a lot to win in front of our fans.
