Tensions between Washington and Tehran are back on the rise after a few weeks of de-escalation, and during his interview with Fortune, U.S. President Donald Trump attacked harshly, “The Iranians are screaming all the time. They can’t wait to sign an agreement but once it’s signed they send you a document that has nothing to do with what you agreed to. And I ask myself, ‘Are you crazy? '”.

During a press conference convened with reporters, Iranian Foreign Minister Esamil Baqaei pointed out, “Although the United States explicitly rejected our draft we have received a number of comments and amendments from the Pakistani side. We have reviewed the proposals and, as announced yesterday, have communicated our views to our American counterparts.”

According to many, the outcome of the negotiations between Washington and Tehran will also depend on the Iranian national team’s participation in the World Cup to be held between the United States, Mexico and Canada starting in mid-June. The team coached by Amir Ghalenoei is preparing for the rainbow competition and the list of players summoned for the tournament has already been drawn up, but the option of Iranian forfeit cannot be ruled out.

In case Iran decides not to attend the World Cup, FIFA may decide to replace it with another team and Italy is the unqualified team with the best ranking in the world rankings. The chances of seeing the Azzurri at the rainbow competition are not many but nothing can be ruled out in this intricate geopolitical scenario.
