When Jannik Sinner plays at Roland Garros: first time with Tabur

The official word on tomorrow’s schedule at Roland Garros has arrived, with the confirmation of the most anticipated match of the day: Jannik Sinner will make his debut in the second Slam of the season in the evening session. The world number one will face French wild card Clement Tabur no earlier than 8:15 p.m. on the Philippe Chatrier in the fourth and final match scheduled on the center court. There is no precedent between Sinner and Tabur.

The choice to place Sinner in the night session is not surprising, even in light of the high temperatures that are affecting Paris these days. Moreover, the presence of a French opponent makes the match even more suitable for the evening session. Sinner will be the only Italian committed on the main courts, but three other Azzurri will still take the court as early as 11 a.m. on the secondary courts.

Opening the Italian program will be Matteo Arnaldi, expected to make his debut against number 29 seed Tallon Griekspoor. The Ligurian will play the first match on Court 7. It will be the first confrontation between the two: the Dutchman has collected only one win on clay this season, while Arnaldi comes from very positive weeks. On the same court, but in the fourth match of the day, it will be Luciano Darderi’s turn against Sebastian Ofner. The match should start around 5 p.m., following Arnaldi’s challenge and two women’s matches.

The women’s tournament will also feature Elisabetta Cocciaretto, expected around 4 p.m. on Court 13 against young Russian qualifier Alina Korneeva. The Marche player will take the court after Popyrin-Svajda and Norrie-Vallejo. Tomorrow will complete the first round of both the men’s and women’s draw, with many players expected on the court. On the Philippe Chatrier it will start at 12 p.m. with Aryna Sabalenka against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Following Stefanos Tsitsipas will take on Alexandre Muller, while Coco Gauff will close the day session against Taylor Townsend. On the Suzanne Lenglen the program will open instead with Daniil Medvedev against Adam Walton. Next up will be Kopriva-Moutet (with the Frenchman a possible opponent for Sinner in a possible third round match), then Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula. Also to follow is the last match on Court 8 between Jacob Fearnley and Juan Manuel Cerundolo: from that match will emerge Sinner’s possible opponent in the second round.
