During the last MLS match between Inter Miami and Philadelphia Union, Lionel Messi asked to be replaced. For the Pulce, a muscle problem and, above all, a lot of concern ahead of the World Cup. The Argentine underwent a series of medical checks to assess the extent of the injury.

“After further medical examinations carried out on Monday, the initial diagnosis indicates an overload associated with muscle fatigue in the left hamstring,” Inter Miami said in a press release. “The timing for his return to physical activity will depend on his clinical and functional progress.”

In short, nothing particularly serious, so much so that, at this point, optimism is rising again to see him in action in the upcoming World Cup. The former Barcelona and PSG starhas already participated in five World Cups, twice winning the Ballon d’Or as the tournament’s best player: the first in 2014 and the second in 2022, the year he led Argentina to the title.

The Argentine national team will face Algeria, Austria and Jordan in Group J of the World Cup. It will also play two pre-tournament friendlies against Honduras on June 6 and Iceland on June 9. Technical commissioner Lionel Scaloni has not yet announced the list of 26 World Cup call-ups but, of course, everyone wants Lionel Messi to be called up for his last World Cup.
