Kevin Schwantz directed at Marc Marquez

Marc Marquez could return to the track at Mugello for the MotoGP Italian Grand Prix. The Catalan rider, who underwent surgery on his shoulder and foot after his accident in Le Mans, wants to get back on his Ducati in order not to lose too much ground from the top of the standings. Former champion Kevin Schwantz in an interview with Gpone.com had this to say about the nine-time world champion’s chances.
“If anyone can do it, it’s him, although every injury makes it more difficult. It was incredible to see Marc come back after three difficult years without winning and take the world championship in such a dominant way last year. We have to wait and see how bad the shoulder and foot really are. Every time you come back from an injury it’s harder and harder but he can do it.”
Schwantz sees Di Giannantonio as the favorite at Mugello: “Even with one finger probably still sore, I think he will be competitive. It would be good for him and Ducati. Mugello is a very technical track. Also, Bagnaia races at home, so who knows. MotoGP changes every week. If Acosta and KTM find something to have more consistency in the race, they could be up there in front. We’ll see.”
The former U.S. rider also commented on the Barcelona incident between Acosta and Marquez: “It’s one of those situations where you have no control. The bike had a mechanical problem in a really strange spot on the track. If it had happened 100 meters ahead, it would have been different and there would have been no consequences.”
