While AC Milan has yet to decide on new technical guidance and Juventus ponders the revolution of its roster, Inter is preparing to pull off the first coup of the summer soccer market session. According to rumors reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are in advanced negotiations for Curtis Jones.

The 25-year-old Liverpool midfielder is due to expire his contract in 2027 and has not found an agreement for an extension with the Reds, who were forced to sell him this summer so as not to lose him for zero in a year’s time, as happened with other stars such as Ibrahima Konaté.

Curtis Jones, class of 2001, has long been selected by the Nerazzurri management, which has been working for weeks to bring the player to Italy. Jones is considered an important piece to rejuvenate the middle department and increase its quality. Thanks to his versatility, he is able to play in practically all midfield roles, providing both defensive coverage and an excellent offensive phase, so much so that in the past he was compared to Steven Gerrard.

Jones, who has played 6 games for the English national team, has also been used frequently this season by Arne Slot as a right-back. Brought up by Liverpool, where he has been playing since he was 9 years old, he could arrive for about 25 million euros, plus a percentage on future resale.

The player’s palmares at youth level should not be forgotten, which testifies to his talent since his days with the national Under-21 team. In July 2023 Jones was the big star in the final of the Under-21 European Championships, scoring the decisive goal that enabled England to beat Spain 1-0 and win the continental title in their category 39 years after the last time.

President Beppe Marotta has already outlined the philosophy that will guide the summer market. At the end of the season, Inter’s number one had stated, “Some changes will take place. It will not be a revolution, but a natural evolution. For some players a cycle closes, the goal is to build a balanced mix of young people and more experienced profiles. The hard core remains, also this year the team has shown the goodness of our project: this is the way forward.”
