Italy repechage to World Cup, Andrea Bocelli takes the field

Andrea Bocelli will headline the opening of the FIFA Countdown Concert, the international event that will officially kick off the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 10. The celebrated Italian tenor will open the evening with a special performance at Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional in front of thousands of spectators and a connected audience from around the world. For the occasion, Bocelli will perform “Nelle Tue Mani,” the famous song taken from the soundtrack of “The Gladiator” and included in the album “Cinema,” giving a moment of great emotional intensity at the beginning of a show that will combine music, sports and culture.
The FIFA Countdown Concert represents an unprecedented production, capable of linking in live streaming the three iconic cities of the upcoming World Cup – Mexico City, Toronto and Los Angeles – through the message “Three Cities. One Concert. One World United Through Football and Music.” The event will bring together artists from the host countries and other nations, celebrating soccer as a universal language. In Mexico City, Bocelli will share the stage with Los Ángeles Azules, Belinda and Elena Rose. In Toronto, AHI, Wyclef Jean, Bryan Adams, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, The Beaches and Vegedream will perform, while Los Angeles will host performances by Ava Max, BIA, Davido and Major Lazer, the musical project led by Diplo.
The Maestro’s presence once again confirms his international prestige and role as an ambassador of Italian musical culture at the world’s most important sporting events. Indeed, in recent months Bocelli has been the protagonist of major global events, from the final draw of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. The special relationship with Mexico was further strengthened a few weeks ago, when the tenor performed in Mexico City’s historic Zócalo in front of more than 300,000 spectators, signing one of the most attended musical events of the year.
From major sporting events to the most prestigious international celebrations, Andrea Bocelli continues to be one of the most representative faces of Italian excellence in the world. The FIFA Countdown Concert is part of a particularly busy calendar for the artist. On June 27 he will be the star in Piazza San Marco, Venice, while on July 23 and 25 he will return to the stage at the Teatro del Silenzio in Lajatico. September will also see the start of the international tour “Romanza 30th Anniversary,” a celebratory project dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the album that marked his emergence on the world stage. The event will kick off on June 10 at 6 p.m. CST and will be broadcast live on TikTok, with subsequent on-demand availability on the VuMe Live platform.
