Mercedes driver George Russell secured pole position for the Catalan Grand Prix: The British driver clocked a time of 1:14.679 to finish ahead of Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton, who will start alongside him on the front row for the first time behind the wheel of a Maranello-based car.

Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli was beaten and will start the Grand Prix from third place after spending Friday and Saturday chasing Russell. Alongside him on the second row is world champion Lando Norris in his McLaren. Max Verstappen is in fifth place alongside his Red Bull teammate Isack Hadjar, with Oscar Piastri (McLaren) and Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls) behind them.

Another difficult Saturday for Charles Leclerc, continuing his run of bad luck. The Monegasque driver crashed into the track-side barriers in Q3 and will therefore start from tenth on the grid. After the impact, the Ferrari driver was taken to the Medical Center for the necessary checks.

A day to forget for veteran Fernando Alonso as well. The two-time world champion will start last on the grid for the first time in his Formula 1 career, excluding grid penalties or technical issues. Even his teammate Stroll will start ahead of him for the first time.
