Austin sprint pole is Max Verstappen’s, distant Ferraris

Max Verstappen will start on pole position tomorrow in the sprint race of the U.S. Grand Prix at the Austin circuit. Red Bull’s four-time world champion was 71 and 380 thousandths ahead of the two McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Eighth and 10th were the Ferraris of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
In Q1, Oliver Bearman in the Haas, Franco Colapinto in the Alpine, Yuki Tsunoda in the second Red Bull, Esteban Ocon in the second Haas and Gabriel Bortoleto in the Sauber are eliminated.
Kimi Antonelli in the Mercedes remains out in Q2 by just 6 thousandths over Hamilton, also excluded from Q3 are Isack Hadjar in the Racing Bulls, Pierre Gasly in the Alpine, Lance Stroll in the Aston Martin and Liam Lawson in the other Racing Bulls.
At the last second of Q3 Verstappen completes yet another masterpiece lap of his career and will start with alongside Norris on the front row. In second with Piastri is an extraordinary Nico Hulkenberg with ls Sauber. Fifth is George Russell in the Mercedes, sixth Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin.
The Williams are also ahead of the Ferraris: seventh is Carlos Sainz, ninth Alexander Albon. The gap of Leclerc, who is tenth, from Verstappen is almost a second, 961 thousandths to be precise, that of Hamilton, eighth, 892 thousandths.
