With just over two weeks to go before Wimbledon begins, FITP President Angelo Binaghi, speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with the Accademia dello Sport per la Solidarietà in Bergamo, once again addressed the topic of Jannik Sinner:

“With him and his staff, the rule is ‘no news is good news.’ He’s earned a nice vacation in my Sardinia, and he’s clearly the favorite for Wimbledon. There’s a title to defend, and today we’re the team to beat,” Binaghi said.

While Sinner is looking toward Wimbledon with ambitions to be a top contender, Matteo Berrettini’s path appears more complicated. The former Championships finalist, hampered in recent years by numerous physical issues, risks not making it directly into the main draw. To avoid the qualifying scenario, the Italian Tennis Federation has already reached out to the tournament organizers.

Binaghi confirmed that he personally wrote to the All England Club’s leadership to support the Roman’s bid for a wild card: “I sent a letter to the director of Wimbledon, and we are confident that Matteo will gain direct entry into the main draw. His results and his prowess on grass deserve this opportunity.”
