2026 World Cup: Colombia Edges DR Congo; Croatia Breathes a Sigh of Relief

Two World Cup group stage matches were played last night. Colombia has reason to smile after securing a 1-0 victory in a crucial match against DR Congo, earning three points that mathematically guarantee their advancement to the round of 16 (in the final Group K match, they will face first place against CR7’s Portugal).
In a match that was anything but easy, it was Muñoz who broke through the DR Congo’s defense. Mpasi put in a great performance. The Congolese goalkeeper made several spectacular saves, though in the end, he had to concede defeat. Desabre’s team will now have to beat Cannavaro’s Uzbekistan to keep their hopes of advancing alive.
Croatia also took the field; after losing their opener to England, they bounced back by defeating Panama. Budimir scored in the 54th minute, giving the Croatians their first three points of the World Cup.
Notably, Modric made his 200th appearance for the Croatian national team. In their final Group L match, Dalic’s team will face Ghana. A win would guarantee their advancement 100%, but a draw might also be enough.
