England disappoints, failing to go beyond a 0-0 draw against Ghana in Foxborough in their second Group L match of the 2026 World Cup currently being held in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The Three Lions hit a wall against the Black Stars, who were flawless on defense; it wasn’t until the final minutes that England truly threatened, with O’Reilly hitting the crossbar. Top players Kane and Bellingham failed to shine; both teams now have 4 points in the standings.

A stalemate in the first half: England controlled the game but failed to get a shot on goal. Tuchel’s team persists with a web of passes that serves no real purpose, remaining ineffective and lacking bite in attack. In contrast, Ghana focuses solely on defense, and in the first 45 minutes, neither team manages a single shot on target—a first in this World Cup. The Africans are well-organized on the field, while the English lack rhythm: for the Three Lions, there are only a couple of shots by Madueke and a diagonal effort by Kane, all off target. Bellingham is below par.

England doesn’t step up its game in the second half. The British side’s play remains slow and predictable, and Ghana continues to defend with its catenaccio. The first shot on goal comes in the 56th minute: Gordon forces a save from Asare. The English are getting frustrated, and Tuchel tries to shake things up by bringing on Saka and O’Reilly for Gordon and Spence. England fails to shake off its sluggishness and takes a big risk: in the 79th minute, Adu has a huge chance on the counterattack, but he squanders it at the moment of the shot by stretching too far for the ball and allowing the defenders to catch up to him.

In the closing minutes, Ghana’s physical energy waned, their organization fell apart, and Tuchel’s team began creating a flurry of chances: in the 86th minute, Asare made a diving save to deny Saka; a minute later, O’Reilly hit the crossbar with a header, and on the rebound, Kane sent the ball high over the bar. In the 93rd minute, Oppong clears the ball off the goal line with his head, saving Ghana: it’s the last chance of the match.
