Milan Transfer News: Gonçalo Ramos will be the Rossoneri’s next center forward. Not only that: the Portuguese player is set to become the most expensive signing in the Rossoneri’s entire history, surpassing his compatriot Rafa Leão and joining another Portuguese coach, Ruben Amorim. The deal, which had been the subject of speculation for days, suddenly gained momentum on Friday with a turn of events that was as sudden as it was decisive.

According to ‘Sky Sport’, Friday was the day Ramos secretly underwent his medical exams; once he passes them, he’ll be free to sign with Milan. His transfer from PSG is now finalized, and the French club will earn at least 50 million euros for his departure. The exact figure is still to be determined, but it will in any case exceed the 49.5 million that the Rossoneri paid to Lille to acquire Leao in 2019. The club’s second-most expensive signing to date remains Leonardo Bonucci (acquired from Juventus for 42 million in 2017), followed by Rui Costa—a symbol of the team that won it all under Carlo Ancelotti—who was acquired from Fiorentina in 2001 for over 41 million.

This deal clearly bears the hallmark of Ruben Amorim, who had identified Ramos as the ideal fit from the very beginning. The two had already crossed paths as opponents in Portugal, when the coach was on the bench at Sporting and faced Benfica in the capital’s fiery derbies. Amorim is therefore well aware of the qualities of the 2001-born player: a dynamic center forward capable of operating across the entire attacking front, contributing to the build-up play, and using his height to his advantage in target-man plays, as well as effectively exploiting the spaces behind the defense.

At PSG, despite an extraordinary trophy case featuring twelve titles in six years, Ramos never managed to secure a regular starting spot under Luis Enrique. Last season, he made just 25 appearances in total, scoring 11 goals. At Milan, however, he will be guaranteed the starring role he has long sought—a factor that reportedly weighed heavily in his decision, despite the Rossoneri’s absence from the upcoming Champions League.

As for the contract terms, according to the Portuguese newspaper ‘A Bola’, Milan has reportedly offered Ramos a long-term contract—between four and five years—with a salary of approximately 4 million euros per season: the same amount the player was earning at PSG, where he was under contract through 2028. Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent and a key figure in relations between the Portuguese soccer world and major European clubs, acted as an intermediary throughout the entire deal.

Ramos’s arrival will inevitably lead to a reshuffling of the attacking lineup. Santiago Gimenez is set to leave Milan: the Mexican center forward, coming off a season marred by several injuries and a lackluster World Cup, has not fully convinced, and Porto has reportedly already stepped forward with an offer exceeding 30 million euros. Rafael Leao’s future also remains to be determined, although the Portuguese player has recently softened his tone regarding the farewell statements he made in recent weeks, postponing any decision until after the World Cup.
