Rome Transfer Market: Top Target for the Attack Remains the Same

Mason Greenwood remains Roma’s top target for their new attack. Further talks are expected between Roma and Marseille to try to finalize the deal. The Rome-based club is reportedly ready to put a total offer of around 45 million euros on the table, while a five-year contract worth 5 million per season plus bonuses awaits the English winger. The 2001-born former Manchester United and Getafe player is considered Gasperini’s top choice to bolster the Giallorossi’s attack ahead of a busy season.
It should not be forgotten, however, that Roma is not the only club interested in Greenwood. Juventus had also re-established contact with the player’s agents in recent weeks, with Luciano Spalletti having identified the English winger as the ideal replacement should Francisco Conceição be sold. The Bianconeri valued Greenwood at around 50 million euros—a figure higher than what the Giallorossi have offered—but competition from the Old Lady remains a factor to monitor closely in upcoming negotiations.
On the domestic front, Roma has meanwhile resolved one of the most delicate issues of its transfer window: Paulo Dybala has reached an agreement to renew his contract, securing a new deal worth 3 million euros per season. This positive outcome was far from a foregone conclusion just a few days ago, given the cryptic statements the Argentine made to ESPN Argentina during the summer break, in which he had left the door open to a possible departure from the capital.
Alongside the Greenwood pursuit, Roma had also evaluated Christian Pulisic, a winger for Milan and the U.S. national team. The American had emerged as a viable alternative in recent weeks, with D’Amico ready to gauge the Rossoneri’s interest: compared to the Greenwood deal, Pulisic would have required a slightly lower outlay—around 40 million euros with the possibility of including players in the deal—and would have brought with him proven experience in the Italian league. However, with negotiations for the English player at an advanced stage, the Pulisic option appears to have taken a back seat for the time being.
