Maxima Roma: Sergio Scariolo Emerges as the Top Candidate for the Head Coaching Position

With planning underway for the new Serie A season, Sergio Scariolo’s name is once again one of the hottest on the coaching market. Following his departure from Real Madrid, the Brescia-born coach could in fact relaunch his career in Italy, more specifically in the capital.

According to reports in Corriere dello Sport, Scariolo is the top target for Maxima Roma, the club led by Paul Matiasic. Having secured official admission to the upcoming Serie A season, the club can finally focus on building its roster and coaching staff, identifying the former Virtus Bologna coach as the ideal candidate to lead the new project.

The other Roman team, SPQR, is also working to finalize its coaching staff. The choice appears to have fallen on Igor Milicic, fresh off his stint coaching Napoli. For the Polish coach, all that remains is the official announcement, which is expected in the coming days, thus completing the coaching picture for the two new powerhouses of Rome’s basketball scene.
