Jannik Sinner is so popular that every photo and every rumor sparks heated discussions, especially on social media. In recent days, the world’s No. 1 tennis player was photographed by the paparazzi in Palau, Sardinia, while grocery shopping at a supermarket. A perfectly normal, entirely ordinary occurrence—and yet some people have sparked a debate.

At the center of the discussion is the supermarket Jannik Sinner chose to shop at: it’s a discount chain with locations throughout Italy. “This guy won 4 million euros a few days ago and he’s at a discount store buying store-brand cheese…unbelievable,” wrote Michele. Nicolò, on the other hand, took an ironic tone: “Maybe Sinner even paid with meal vouchers—it wouldn’t surprise me.”

Many other users called out the naysayers: “Always stirring up controversy—what’s so strange about that??” Federica asked. “But why do you care where he does his grocery shopping? You really do have a sad and boring life!” was Maurizio’s verdict.

Despite Jannik Sinner’s results, Brad Gilbert brought everyone back down to earth in a recent interview with Tennis Channel: “Right now, he and Carlos Alcaraz aren’t in my all-time top 15. In first place is obviously Novak Djokovic, followed by Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Right behind them, I’d put Pete Sampras, then Björn Borg and Rod Laver.”

The American then rounded out his list by placing Andre Agassi at number seven, John McEnroe at number eight, Jimmy Connors at number nine, and Ivan Lendl at number ten. Positions 11 through 15 are held by Mats Wilander, Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker, Ken Rosewall, and John Newcombe.
