The basketball world is in mourning; Antonio Saccone has died

The basketball world is mourning the passing of Antonio Saccone, an icon of Siena sports and former president of Polisportiva Mens Sana. He led the club from 2016 to 2025 and also served as a national council member of UNASCI (National Union of Centennial Sports Associations of Italy).
Mens Sana Basketball issued the following statement of condolence: “On behalf of President Francesco Frati and the entire white-and-green club, the organization expresses its deepest condolences and extends its heartfelt sympathy to the Saccone family on the passing of our dear Antonio.”
“He was a guiding figure for the entire Mens Sana family. As the long-time president of the sports club and a passionate supporter of the white-and-green colors, he wholeheartedly supported Mens Sana’s journey toward a fresh start, believing from the very beginning in the new leadership and the values it embodied.”
“A true sportsman, he always followed the fortunes of his beloved Mens Sana with passion, expertise, and extraordinary tenacity, consistently offering his support and setting an example. To the Saccone family—his wife Lorena, his children Marco, Elisabetta, and Andrea, and all his grandchildren—we extend the warm embrace and heartfelt sympathy of the entire Mens Sana Basketball community during this time of profound grief,” the statement reads.
