Why Jannik Sinner Is Skipping the Next Masters 1000: The Italian Has Made a Clear Decision

Jannik Sinner is extending his vacation: the world No. 1, fresh off his Wimbledon victory, has decided to skip the Montreal Masters 1000, scheduled to take place in Canada from August 2 to 13. After careful consideration, the Italian tennis player, together with his staff, has decided to extend his rest period to ensure he is in peak condition for the U.S. Open, his main goal for the remainder of the season.
The Italian has thus voluntarily passed up the opportunity to achieve what no one has ever done before: winning all the Masters 1000 tournaments in the same calendar year. After winning the first five in 2025, Sinner only needed to win Montreal, Cincinnati, Shanghai, and Paris. But the South Tyrolean, mindful of the difficulties he faced at Roland Garros after his five consecutive titles, preferred not to take any risks and instead focus entirely on Cincinnati and the US Open—two tournaments he lost in the finals last season, both to Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz himself is expected to return to the court in Cincinnati to prepare as best he can for the season’s final Grand Slam. Novak Djokovic will also be absent from Canada and will return either to Cincinnati or directly to New York.
Meanwhile, Sinner has been enjoying a well-deserved break in Sardinia, in Porto Rafael, in the Gallura region, where he reportedly purchased a luxurious villa overlooking the La Maddalena archipelago for a sum that could exceed 3 million euros. By his side is his fiancée, Laila Hasanovic, who was already in the stands during the Wimbledon final alongside the tennis player’s family. Sinner’s season speaks for itself: 44 wins and just 3 losses, with five Masters 1000 titles won out of five contested, and his second consecutive Wimbledon title, bringing his career Grand Slam total to five.
