For several weeks now, there has been talk of Cristian Romero’s possible transfer to Inter: the Argentine center back is highly regarded by Chivu and would be a crucial addition to the Italian champions’ defense.

During a press conference, Roberto De Zerbi updated Tottenham fans on the situation: “He’s always been incredible with me. He was disappointed when he didn’t play in the last game of last season (the one that secured Spurs’ survival, ed.). I never called him to try to convince him to stay; I respected his decision. He’s one of the best center backs in the world, but I want to respect his wishes.”

The London club’s manager thus confirmed Romero’s desire for a change of scenery, but an agreement with Inter has not yet been reached. Beppe Marotta would prefer not to go beyond 40 million euros, but the English club’s management is hesitant.

There are also obstacles regarding salary, where the gap between the asking price and the offer is approximately 500,000 euros. Inter is determined to close the deal, and further talks between the parties are expected in the coming days to reach a final agreement.

Meanwhile, John Stones arrived in Milan on Thursday, having signed with Inter on a free transfer following the defender’s long stint at Manchester City. The center back had other offers (some very lucrative ones from Saudi Arabia and Qatar), but Beppe Marotta managed to convince him to join the Nerazzurri.
