Marco Travaglio attacks Jannik Sinner and sparks fans’ anger
The statements made by Marco Travaglio during the “Fuori di Cabello” podcast hosted by Victoria Cabello are sparking a lot of debate. The editor-in-chief of *Il Fatto Quotidiano* began with a confession: “When the national team plays, I root against them; I detest that fake patriotic rhetoric—you have no idea how much I enjoyed their third consecutive World Cup elimination.”
“I’ve rooted for them only a few times—in 1978 and 1982—because all my idols were on the team, first and foremost Zoff. When you’re obsessed with soccer, you become superstitious, and I was until 1995 when Moggi arrived at Juventus: that’s when I stopped rooting for and following my Juve.”
Marco Travaglio then turned his attention to Jannik Sinner: “I play tennis, but I don’t like him—he doesn’t entertain me. His style of play is monotonous: I root for Alcaraz, just as I used to root for Jimmy Connors and not Björn Borg.”
The editor-in-chief of *Il Fatto Quotidiano*’s comments quickly went viral, and many of Sinner’s fans harshly criticized him. Haters of the South Tyrolean also chimed in under some posts, sparking a major social media controversy.
In recent days, the ATP No. 1 has been targeted by many Canadian fans for his decision not to participate in the Montreal tournament. Many argue that the ATP should penalize players who withdraw after tickets have been issued, in order to protect fans who have already purchased tickets.
