Davyd Andryiesh, a (double) second-place finish worth its weight in gold: “That was my goal”

Davyd Andryiesh wrapped up his participation in the Italian Handbike Championship, held in Zoppola, in the best possible way. Born in Ukraine and raised in Villasanta, he has lived with spastic tetraparesis since birth, and over the years has achieved numerous successes, eventually establishing himself at the top of his category.

“I’m pleased with this double title as Italian runner-up, both in the time trial and the road race. That was my goal. I couldn’t aim for the title because Luca Mazzone is very strong and has the kind of power I don’t have right now, so I think I achieved the best possible result. It’s the first time I’ve managed to achieve this,” he told Sportal.it.

“Both races went very well. In the time trial, I managed my energy carefully, partly because the race took place in the late afternoon in really intense heat. The road race went even better: first, I helped out a friend of mine who races in another category, then I passed as many opponents as I could, and second place was an excellent result. Now the goal is to help Bee&bike Bregnano maintain its place among the top three teams in Italy. The Italian Cup will conclude on August 30 with the final race in Alba.”

“There’s also an issue that’s particularly close to my heart. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine was hit by a car while crossing the street on his handbike at a crosswalk, but he was actually fined because, according to the law, he was supposed to get off the bike. For us, however, that’s impossible to do. I believe this law needs to be changed,” he was keen to emphasize.
